Number porting allows customers to transfer their existing phone number from one service provider to another. When a customer requests to port their number, the new service provider will contact the old provider to initiate the transfer process. The old provider will then release the number to the new provider, who will activate it on their network. This process ensures that customers can keep their phone number even when switching service providers. **
